    Breath Series: Body Scan

Last time, we were talking about Coherent Breathing, a breathing technique aimed at slowing your breathing rate down to five breaths per minute. Today we are going to talk about Body Scan, a relaxation technique that we usually do at the beginning or at the end of practice (yoga or pranayama). Body Scan helps you settled down what you have been experiencing during your practice and to consolidate its beneficial effects. We don’t want you to jump into your daily life without a time to take everything in. Example of Body Scan is the following: Closing your eyes and your mouth, breathe slowly and gently in the Coherent Breathing rhythm.…

    Breath Series: Coherent Breathing

In one of my first posts, I was suggesting as a gift for a yogi friend a specific book about breathing: The Healing Power of the Breath by Richard Brown. I came across this book during my 200 hours of teacher training. I have to admit, in the beginning, I wasn’t really interested in it. I felt it was overwhelming, too many types of breathing for a person that never actually looked into it. Then, during my last days of training, after a couple of exercises, I realized how important breathing is. I started to re-read the book and now I want to share with you some techniques. I’m going…

Meditation for beginners + FREE PRINTABLE

Even though I’m a yoga teacher, meditation comes really difficult for me. I’m good in breathing techniques, but at the moment in which I stop counting the breaths or repeating inhale, exhale, my mind starts to wander without control. That’s why, I choose meditation for my January challenge. Each month I’ll challenge myself to add a new healthy habit in my life. I give myself a month to see if the new habit sink with me, or it comes difficult. JANUARY: 21-DAY MEDITATION Did you know that the words “medicine” and “meditation” come from the same Latin word? The root is “mederi” that means to heal. This information was given…

    Christmas presents for a yogi

Do you have a friend who’s a yogi but you have no idea what to gift them for Christmas? Well, you came to the right place. I’m that yogi friend, so I can easily help you with your task and suggest what I would love to find under a Christmas tree as a yogi (wink to all my friends out there). 1. YOGA MAT BAG Most of your yogi friends will probably have a yoga mat yet, that’s the first tool that a yogi needs. Most of all, if in the yoga studious where they practice they have to rent it. Sometimes, when you buy a yoga mat, the bag…

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR HAMSTRING RELEASE

Are you scared of going to a yoga class because you are not flexible? Do you think because you can’t touch your feet you are not going to be able to do yoga? Well, I’m telling you something: I was scared too. Another secret that I’d like to share is that I’ve never really been flexible. Not even when I was a little kid practicing gymnastics. All of my friends were doing splits so easily, while I was truly struggling. Eventually, I gave up on gymnastics, I started swimming and that definitely didn’t help my flexibility. My legs became stronger than ever, but they lost a lot of flexibility.  When…

How I Became a Yoga Teacher

THE BEGINNING Crazy to think of how I became a yoga teacher! The first time I set foot in a yoga class, it wasn’t even a yoga studio. It was exactly one year that I was living in the United States. During all that period, even though I wanted, I couldn’t find the courage to step into a yoga class. I thought I wasn’t good for yoga because I wasn’t flexible, thin or had a background in gymnastics. I was scared by all those amazing yogis doing weird ass poses on Instagram. I thought I was never going to be able to do them. I wish I could go back…
